SOLD Antique 18th Century Dutch Hunting Hanger Sword With Rhino Horn Hilt
SOLD Antique 18th century circa 1750 Dutch Hunting Hanger Sword.
The hilt is composed of faceted, grip carved from light brown rhino horn, brass Shell-guard cast in relief and pierced with scrolling vines and flanked by pair of scrolled quillons, with slightly curved and very sharp single-edged steel blade in its original wood scabbard finished in yellow ochre lacquer and mounted with two suspension brass mounts.
During the 18th century Hunting Hanger Swords were worn by European and American military officers as a badge of rank
CONDITION: in good condition considering its age to be over 250 years old, showing the age and usage, the upper brass mount (locket) cracked.
