Antique American Civil War period sword bayonet, British pattern 1856, intended for use with both the Enfield P-1853 Percussion 577 caliber short rifle and the artillery carbine – musket.
This saber bayonet is made by the well-known German sword maker KIRSCHBAUM of Solingen for export to the USA during the Civil War for both Confederate and Union.
The bayonet has a Yataghan style fullered steel blade and a hilt that consists of an iron guard with a muzzle ring and a pommel mounted with checkered grip scales made of black pressed leather.
