Native American Indian Buffalo Bison Gun Powder Horn

Native American Indian Buffalo Bison Gun Powder Horn

SKU: EA260

Native American Indian Buffalo / Bison Gun Powder Horn Primer made of a hollowed–out horn of Bison / Buffalo, with the base covered by rawhide, fitted with braided rawhide straps for suspension. Adorned with natural tassels. The mouth is with its shaped rawhide stopper.

CONDITION: Overall in fine condition with smooth, toned grey-black surfaces, retains an untouched lovely aged patina.

We do not know exactly the age of this horn the previous owner purchased it at a flee market over 30 years ago and the object was in the same condition as found, as far as I know. So, the primer must be much older, possibly from the end of the 19th century, or from the first part of the 20th century. The rawhide on the mouth and the stopper is sturdy and very dry. The rawhide straps are dry, also showing its age and usage with wear and dirt, the tassels are worn-out. They are not as bright and shiny as on the pictures, which is caused by camera light.
