Antique, late 18th or early 19th century, imperial Russian casket, or chest, veneered with bone in a manner characteristic of the 18th-century works of Khalkogory artisans from the Arkhangelsk region.

The Kholmogorsky District of Arkhangelsk Oblast is located near the port of Arkhangelsk on the White Sea coast. It was a significant trading post in the far north of the Russian Empire.

The rectangular wood casket has a beveled lid supported by four bracket feet. The lid and sides are veneered with bone panels and decorated with hand-pierced fretwork foliate designs. The casket is also adorned with engraved and stained wreaths and other foliates. The interior is lined with checkered patterned paper. The original lock is still intact, but unfortunately, there is no key available.
