Antique 18th Century Mughal India Islamic Indo Persian Indian shield Dhal -Separ
Rare antique 18th century, Islamic , Indo Persian-MughalIndian shield (Dhal -Separ) of circular and convex form with inverted rim, made of semi translucent verythick treated white rhinoceros hide, adorned on the center withembossed central medallion surrounded byfour cast brass bosses in the form of stylized fully bloomed eight -petalflower heads ,seated on the red fabric base ,affixed on the back with ironring-boltsfor the hand straps (to hold the shield).

Most of these types of the rhinoceros hide shields with brass cast bosses in the form of stylized blossom are very small for the size of the buckler, this particular specimen is in the size of a full shield and is the largest of this type which we have ever seen.
