Antique 19th century Meiji period Japanese five-case, dark brown Cinnabar lacquer Inro with finely hand carved flower heads.

An Inro is a small portable case with several compartments. Originally used for holding medicine or other small items, they became a part of traditional Japanese male costume.

MEASUREMENTS: Height: 8.3 cm (3 1/4 inches). Width: 5.1cm (2 inches).

CONDITION: Showing the age and usage, lacquer chipped in several places as typical of this material.
