Antique 17th century Indo Portuguese Figure of Our Lady of Sorrows India Goa

SKU: Ch7

SOLD Antique, 17th century, Indo Portuguese Figure of Our Lady of Sorrows, South India Goa.
She is finely carved in bone, depicting Virgin Mary holding her hands in adoration, wearing a voluminous mantle over a tunic, and embellished with a beaded pattern along the edges.
A superbly carved Madonna is bearing a very subtle contrapposto stance. The same subtlety may be observed in the rendering of the drapery of the vestments, the detailing of the hair, and the facial expression.
Condition: showing age and use, with exceptional patina, minor age cracks (as common in these types) consistent with age to be over 300 years old.
The two small holes on the top of the head were specially drilled to attach by pegs the silver crown, which figure was at some time adorned by a faithful catholic owner.
The figure's base is drilled with a hole to be mounted on a stand.
