Antique Japanese Arita Porcelain Ewer 17th century

Authentic antique 17th century Edo Period Japanese Arita porcelain ewer or wine ewer. The body of rounded bulbous form with a waisted neck and loop handle, painted in underglaze-blue with three lobed panels with peonies reserved on karakusa, the neck and the handle are painted with stylized peonies and scrolls. The top of the handle two holes whilst one is pierced and the other is not; the holes were made prior to the firing process of the porcelain at the request of European merchants importing Japanese porcelain for European markets since many of these types of ewer were mounted in Europe with silver lids.


MEASUREMENTS: Height: 21.5 cm (8.46 inches.), width with handles: 12.5 cm (4.92 inches).

 

CONDITION: Excellent, no chips, cracks, or repairs, nice age patina and good signs of usage.
