Ancient Chinese Wall Brick with Dragon Tang Dynasty (618-907 A.D.)
Rare ancient Chinese Tang Dynasty (618-907 A.D.) Spectacular, architectural rectangular hollow wall brick decorated in relief.
The brick is most likely from a palace or temple interior wall. Formed of slip- painted, gray clay decorated on one side by sculptured in relief mythological dragon holding a Pearl of Wisdom in his claw. The other side decorated with sculptured in relief lotus blossom, the upper rim is incised with two Chinese characters.
CONDITION: Light earthen deposits in the crevices, some chipping, upper corner broken off and glued back, consistent with age. However, the brick is in good condition considering its age, 1400 – 1100 years old ceramic.
