Antique Islamic Fatimid Sgraffito Vessel Fatimid Caliphate Egypt 10th-12th C
This is a rare antique earthenware jar/vessel from the Fatimid Caliphate period in Egypt, dating back to the 10th-12th century AD (288 - 494 AH). The jar has a bulbous body with a flaring neck, which is incised with a series of vertical lines and a zig-zag pattern. The shoulder is decorated with incised bands of floral and palmette scrollwork motifs, which is typical of the Fatimid style, and rests on a short foot. The jar is covered in a green lead glaze that pools and drips down the walls.
