Antique Japanese Large Satsuma Incense Burner Censer Koro

Antique Japanese Large Satsuma Incense Burner Censer Koro

SKU: J88

Antique 19th century, early Meiji Period, Japanese fine Satsuma ceramic large incense burner censer - Koro. It is decorated with various colored enamels and gold on a crackled cream ground, which gives it a unique and beautiful appearance.

One side of the censer features a finely hand-painted garden scene depicting an enthroned emperor guarded by samurais and receiving a high-ranking dignitary. The scene is incredibly detailed, with each figure carefully rendered in exquisite detail. The colors are vibrant and rich, and the gold accents add a touch of luxury and elegance.

On the other side of the censer, there is another garden scene with two court ladies and children guarded by samurai. This scene is equally detailed and beautiful, with the figures depicted in a more relaxed and informal setting. Again, the colors and gold accents are used to create a sense of harmony and balance.

The neck of the censer has a band of intricate brocade patterns, which adds another layer of detail and complexity to the piece. The shoulder is applied with two upright bracket handles, which are both functional and decorative. The incense burner rests on the legs of three monster heads, which are also beautifully decorated with gold accents.

CONDITION: Excellent condition. No cracks or repairs. There is only a small chip on the corner of one of the handles, which does not detract from the overall beauty and value of the piece. This is a truly exceptional example of Japanese Satsuma ceramic art, and it would make an excellent addition to any collection.
