Antique 16th-17th century Indian bronze figure of a figure of a Hindu or Jain deity - Goddess, Southern India, Tamil Nadu, Vijayanagar Empire, 1336-1646 A. D.
Figure depicting Goddess, seated on a platform in Dhyanasana, wearing a sash hanging across the hip, and adorned with a long necklace, bracelets on his wrists, and armbands. His hands, in “Vitarka Mudra," the gesture of turning the Wheel of Dharma and Meditation.The gesture of the right hand stands for turning the wheel of Dharma, while that of the left hand symbolizes meditation. The two conjoined symbolize teaching the Dharma while in meditation on emptiness.
The Vijayanagara empire ruled the Deccan plateau in Southern India and was established in 1336 by the Sangama dynasty. The empire raised mostly as a force to counter the growing Islamic invasion. At its peak, the Vijayanagara empire dominated all of Southern India and the Sultanates of the Deccan. The empire began to falter after the defeat at the Battle of Talikota in 1565 and then ended in 1646.

CONDITION: In good condition considering its age, showing its age and usage, worn out on the exposed areas with old, natural, glossy reddish-brown patina.
