SOLD Exceptional Antique Bhutanese Sword Bhutan 18th -19th Century

SOLD Antique Bhutanese short sword, Bhutan 18th -19th century with broad single-edge, very sharp hand forged steel blade cut along the back-edge with a double fuller. The hilt of elegant form, shaped of a single piece of horn with an oval iron collar, white metal knuckle guard and pommel adornment with white metal alloy strap.

In its original white metal alloy scabbard, with wooden insert, beautifully hand chased and embossed on the exterior with the motive of stylized dragon and foliage, and fitted on back side with a loop for suspension.


Bhutanese swords are often found in southern and eastern Tibet, and while there are some important shared features, they are nevertheless distinct in form and style from Tibetan swords.


CONDITION: Age and usage is showing, the upper part of the embossed dragon slightly injured with repair, minor dents and bends to the scabbard, otherwise in good condition considering its age.

Overall length without the scabbard: 55.7 cm (21.93 inches).
