SOLD Authentic antique,17th – 18th century, Islamic Mughal Indian Damascus steel Tulwar- hilted Sword, Shamshir – Talwar.
DETAILS: Heavy and sturdy, curved single edged, Damascus steel blade with, slightly visible, extremely fine Kara – Khorassan Wootz of silver tone grain pattern. Massive steel Tulwar hilt, with a bellied grip that runs down to form short quillons, with a large saucer – shaped pommel entirely covered in heavy silver koftgari overlay in repeating lattice and blossom design with its original wooden velvet covered scabbard.
CONDITION: The sword is in good condition considering its age with minor wear and pitting. To make the Damascus pattern clearly visible the blade must be polished. The throat of the wood scabbard chipped, velvet slightly worn.
MEASUREMENTS: Overall length with the scabbard: 87.6 cm (34 1/2 inches) Overall length without scabbard: 88.5 cm (34 3/4 in), length of the blade: 76.2 cm (30 in).
