Antique Circa 1730 Saxon Polish Partisan Guard Of King Augustus II

 Rare antique 18th century (1725-1763) Saxon – Polish State Ceremonial Partisan of an Officer of the Saxon "Hundred Swiss Guards of Augustus II and the III, kings of Poland and, electors of Saxony.
DETAILS: Entirely made of cast steel, shaped as a crowned double-headed eagle with waved tapering double-edged blade with its integral tapering octagonal socket pierced with two holes for the pins to be fasten to the wooden haft.
REFERENCES: This partisan is very similar the example of the partisan from Polish state collection of Wawel Royal Castle, Cracow, published in the book Land of the Winged Horsemen: Art in Poland 1572-1764. Page: 141. No 21. Confiscated by Russians from the collection of a Polish aristocrat, after the fall of the 1831 November Uprising. Initially kept in personal collection of Russian Cars of Romanov dynasty at the Imperial palace Tsarskoye Selo, and from 1880 to 1924 in the Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg ,from where it was restitutedto Polandtogether with other Polish treasures on the base of the treaty of Riga of 1921 between Poland and Soviet Russia signed in Riga The Soviet state has agreed to return all , works of art, libraries, archival collections etc., seized by Russian during the partition of Poland. Published in the book Land of the Winged Horsemen: Art m Poland 1572-1764. Page: 141. No 21.and also polished in the book: Pole Weapons in the collections of the Wawel Royal Castle by Krzysztof J. These types of the partisan for an Officer of the Saxon "Hundred Swiss Guards of Augustus II and the III, kings of Poland and, electors of Saxony were manufactured with slightly differences.
This diversity leads to the conclusion that they were made, not only by the different makers, but possibly in different years during the period 1730 -1757. Saxon Swiss Guard was in existence from 1730 until 1757.
1. Some with the eagle legs without a claw as on the example from Polish state collection of Wawel Royal Castle, Cracow, published in the book Land of the Winged Horsemen: Art m Poland 1572-1764. Page: 141. No 21.
2. With the waved blade and straight tapering blade.
3. Diverse shape of the wings and the feathers on the eagle.
3. Different shape of eagle's beak, some with tongue, some without tongue.
5. With round or octagonal sockets
6. Diversity in Crowns on the eagle heads, some are pierced with open work others are not.
