SOLD Antique Persian Qajar Dynasty Islamic Steel Axe Head Tabar

SOLD Antique, 19th century, Persian Qajar Dynasty, steel axe head”Tabar”, of typical crescent form with cartouche to center decorated with etched floral design. The back formed as a horned dragon head terminal. Heads of dragons with open jaws are common ornaments on Qajar military axes. The head of the mythical dragon can be traced in Iranian tradition to the time of ancient Persia.


CONDITION: Pitted with signs of usage and wear, split on the join of two edges of the upper part of the dragon head terminal.

MEASUREMENTS: Height: 24 cm (4 1/2 in). Width: 21.5 cm (8 1, 2 in).
