SOLD Antique, 19th century, Dutch Small-Sword with blade of hollow triangular section etched with shield, cannons, banners and foliage. A gold gild brass hilt, cast and chased in low relief comprising a fluted mother-of-pearl grip-scales enclosed by gild brass straps decorated with scrolling ornament, a down turned shell guard bearing Coat of Arms of the Kingdom of the Netherlands with the motto "JE MAINTIENDRA”. A knuckle bow cast and chased with scrolls with lion’s head terminal, an elaborate pommel decorated with flowers and scrolls. With its leather scabbard with gold gilt brass chape.
CONDITION: The sword is in good condition considering its age, except for the leather scabbard which is reinforced in two spots by plastic tape, most likely cracked underneath, absence of the locket.
MEASUREMENTS: Overall length of the sword sheathed in the scabbard:91cm (35 3/4 in). Overall length without the scabbard: 90 cm (35 3/8 in). Length of the blade: 75.5 cm (29 3/4 in).
