SOLD Antique bronze Figure Indian Hindu Goddess Parvati 16t/18th century India

SOLD A superb quality antique, 16th –18th century Indian, finely cast, and skillfully hand chased bronze figure depicts an Indian Hindu goddess Parvati as Meenakshi of Madurai. She is standing, in slight tribanga pose, on a circular lotus base over a square plinth, holding in her raised right hand a lotus stalk with perching parrot, and her left hand extended along her hip, clad in a long dhoti tied at her waist with a sash falling down the sides of her legs, her upper torso adorned with necklaces, and her arms with armlets and bracelets, her face flanked by elongated earlobes, and surmounted by a high conical headdress.


CONDITION: In good condition considering its age and usage, worn out on the exposed areas, the surface is with a rich brown and green patina overall, base slightly bent on the corners. The old collection acquisition number is hand painted in red underneath of the base. The bronze is in fact much darker as appears on the pictures, due to the artificial light which was used during the process of taking pictures, to show the finely hand chased details of the sculpture, the pictures are lighter.
