SOLD Authentic antique, 19th century, finely hand painted on a wooden panel, Russian Orthodox Icon, The Right Handed Mother of God (Бого Матерь Праворучица).

MEASUREMENTS: 18 cm x 13 cm (7 in x 5 in).

CONDITION: The icon is in the original good condition with a nice old patina. The border with remains of the iron nails, which previously held on oklad in which the icon was originally encased. One minor surface edge crack on the lower part. No repairs or restorations

The Russian icons of The Right Handed Mother of God are rare. In Greece, on the Peloponnese, in the monastery of Mega Spileon - Great Cave is a miraculous Icon of The Right Handed Mother of God, created,according to the tradition, by the apostle and evangelist Luke. The name is due to the fact that the image of the Mother of God is holding the Divine Child on her right hand, distinctly opposite to more common images where the Divine Child sits on the left hand. Another well-known Icon of The Right Handed Mother of God is in the monastery of St. Catherine, in Sinai.
