SOLD Antique 18th century Indo Persian-Mughal, Islamic Kulah-Khud Helmet Mogul India

SOLD Authentic Antique 18th century Indo Persian-Mughal, Kulah-Khud helmet with a hemi-spherical skull and a stout mounted long spike at the top and sliding nasal, retaining its original neck-defence camail of chain mail. The skull is chiseled over its entire surface with floral and creeper designs in medium relief damascened in silver koftgari. The skull of the helmet is hand forged from a single piece of thick solid steel with visible hammer marks in the interior but with a perfectly smooth surface on the exterior.

MEASUREMENTS (approximately):

Height from the top of the spike to the bottom of the mail: 56 cm (22 in). Height from the top of the spike to the bottom edge of the helmet: 27.5 cm (10 3/4 in).

Diameter: 20.5 cm (8 1/8 in).

WEIGHT: 1160 grams.

CONDITION: There is some damage on the edge of the skull at the sight below the band. Due to the heavy structure of the helmet this damage was certainly made during combat.


REFERENCES: A similar helmet is in the collection of the National Museum of New Delhi dated to 1750, published in the "Indian Armours in the National Museum Collection Catalogue" by G.N.Pant and K.K.Sharma. Page 43 Figure 12, and also in the Indian book" Arms and Armour Volume III" by Dr. G.N. Pant plate CIX - CX. Dr. G.N. Pant - On page 1213 Plate XVIII.
