SOLD Antique 12th century A.D. (6th century AH) Central Asia - khorassan medieval Islamic Seljuk, hand hammered large bronze ewer with widening cylindrical body to flat shoulder with tubular neck and rising trough spout, with simple handle linking neck and body ,the body engraved with a series of altering motifs comprising sprouting flowers with scrolling vine, the upper body and shoulder decorated with foliated kufic inscriptions.

REFERENCES:

1. A similar Khorasan bronze ewer that is however higher (54.9 cm -21 5/8 inches) and in much better condition is published in Christie’s catalog Art of the Islamic and Indian world October 7, 2008 (lot 115. Price $100,000 - $140,000).

Condition: damaged in several areas with old repairs, surface corroded with areas of red and green patination.

The colors of the bowl are in fact duller; we had to use very strong light to show the actual condition. There is damage and repair in the ewer.
