SOLD Antique 12th century A.D. (6th century AH) Central Asia - khorassan medieval Islamic Seljuk, hand hammered large bronze ewer with widening cylindrical body to flat shoulder with tubular neck and rising trough spout, with simple handle linking neck and body ,the body engraved with a series of altering motifs comprising sprouting flowers with scrolling vine, the upper body and shoulder decorated with foliated kufic inscriptions.

REFERENCES:

1. A similar Khorasan bronze ewer that is however higher (54.9 cm -21 5/8 inches) and in much better condition is published in Christie’s catalog Art of the Islamic and Indian world October 7, 2008 (lot 115. Price $100,000 - $140,000).

2. “Art of The Eastern World” Hadji Baba Ancient Art London 1996 (Page. 204 No.94).

The buyer will be provided with a copy of the pages from the mentioned references, together with a certificate of authenticity.

Condition: damaged in several areas with old repairs, surface corroded with areas of red and green patination.

The colors of the bowl are in fact duller; we had to use very strong light to show the actual condition. There is damage and repair in the ewer.

MEASUREMENTS:

Height: 29.5 cm (11 5/8 inches).

Diameter of the body: 16 cm (6 1/4 inches).

Due to the fact that the market is flooded by reproductions of the Islamic and Indo Persian antiques, which for inexperienced collectors look the same as authentic objects.
