SOLD Antique 16th Century Polish Or German War Hammer Nadziak

SOLD Rare Antique, late 16th - early 17th century, central European, Polish or German, all steel War Hammer – Nadziak, composed of several elements of hand forged steel, the central vertical part is made of one piece of steel with a central block cut with two vertical grooves, faceted bulbous stem, extended to down-curved shaped beak of diamond section, and shaped back hammer of square section. The steel haft of square section formed with fluted concave middle section, bordered by faceted edges chiseled on each side with an elaborated flower stem with a tulip flower head, and pierced with a pair of holes to be mounted in the tube with the handle and secured by bolts. The two elements of the War Hammer are fastened on the top by a bolt with a domed finial.


REFERENCES: A very similar Warhammer from the collection of The Museum of the Polish Army (Muzeum Wojska Polskiego) in Warsaw, is published in the Polish book POLSKA - BROŃ WODZÓW I ŻOŁNIERZY by Zdzisław. Page 54. We had also found, on the internet, a Russian website dedicated to the 16th-17th century Polish Winged Hussars arms and armour where there is a picture of an almost identical War Hammer from the collection of The Museum of the Polish Army (Muzeum Wojska Polskiego) in Warsaw. Please see the pictures attached to the listing. As can be seen on the pictures, the haft of the War Hammer from the Museum of the Polish Army is made of two pieces, the upper haft is inserted in the tube with the handle at the base, and the last picture of the other late 16th century War Hammer depicting the haft made of three pieces pierced with holes and riveted together.
