Antique Islamic Indo Persian Mughal Jade Hilted Indian Sword Shamshir 18th c
Antique, 18th century, Islamic Indo Persian, Mughal Indian sword Shamshir. Chillanum form hilt of black nephrite (jade), of slender waisted form finely incised with lined pattern, with central spherical moulding carved with ribbed pattern and rising to a double petalled pommel, surmounted by a bud - shaped finial with ribbed pattern, integral foliate knuckle - guard with bud - shaped finial. A curved sturdy single edged Damascus steel shamshir blade with, slightly visible, watered pattern.
CONDITION: The blade of the sword is with wear and pitting. To make the Damascus pattern clearly visible the blade must be polished. The throat of the wood scabbard chipped, velvet slightly worn, the knuckle - guard with fissure and chipped, some imperfection beneath the back of one of the petalled pommel.
