Antique 16th-17th century extremely well-made hand forged steel, huge Croatian, Halberd Polearm Bardiche-Battle Axe head of elegant shaped form and slightly curved cutting edge with a rear-hammer and a rectangular face and conical socket slightly on the angle to improve the impact of the slashing.
Stamped on one side with five maker's marks, three of them crescentic shape and another one with initials "L" within a square panel, the fifth in the form of the flower head. It is retaining a part of its original wood staff, which was cut down by the Canadian WWII soldier for transportation purposes. He had brought it home as a war souvenir.

CONDITION: showing age and usage, slightly pitted, in good condition, considering its age to be over 350 years.

MEASUREMENTS:
Overall length, including wooden staff: 59 cm (23.23 inches).
Overall length of the steelhead with the socket: 42.5 cm (16.73 inches).
WEIGHT: 2.727 Kg (6 pounds)

A similar axe head was offered by Hermann Historica of Munich in May 2001, Lot 058, with an opening bid of 3000 DM, or 1534 Euro, plus premium. (18 years ago)
