Antique Khmer Sandstone Head Of Shiva Bayon Period 12th Century A.D.
Authentic antique, Medieval Cambodia - Bayon Period, 12th century A.D. Khmer, sandstone head of Shiva. Finely carved with broad mouth and gentle smile and almond shaped eyes, wide sensuously modeled lips set beneath a prominent nose, the finely braided hair rising to conical topknot, the vertical third eye incised on the forehead.
MEASUREMENTS: Height: 19 cm (7.48 inches).
CONDITION: Drilled hole in bottom of head with inserted coper tube for dowel and mounting, chipped with old repairs.
The calcified mineral deposits, strongly visible on the surface of the head, are strong and excellent indicators of the authenticity of this piece.
