Authentic Antique Meiji period (1868 -1912), Japanese five-case, dark brown - lacquered Inro with finely carved flower heads.
An Inro is a small portable case with several compartments. Originally used for holding medicine or other small items, they became a part of traditional Japanese male costume.
MEASUREMENTS: Height: 8.3 cm (3 1/4 in). Width: 5.1cm (2 in).
CONDITION: Damaged - chipped lacquer in several places.
A very similar Inro is in a, collection of the Pitt Rivers Museum, of the University of Oxford in Oxford, England.
